Ill. county considers bullet tax
Officials in Cook County, Ill., are considering the
creation of the first bullet tax in the United States.
Commissioner Roberto Maldonado says he wants to create a
10-cent per bullet tax to help balance the county's
$500 million budget deficit, the Chicago Sun-Times
reported. Maldonado figures a large part of the county
medical budget goes for treating gunshot victims,
WBBM-AM, Chicago, reported. However, County Board
President Todd Stroger is on record against new taxes.
